While Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte were supposed to play two romantic characters on screen, in reality the two actors couldn’t see each other. During the promotion of The Pelican Affair, Julia Roberts declared that she had found Nick Nolte “absolutely disgusting“. A little later, she added that he had annoyed her from their first meeting, and that she suspected that he intended to scare people away.
