Jean-Jacques Baylac was president of the Vicois bullfighting club. His works exhibited today at the tourist office bear witness to his great sensitivity.

Nicole Labarrère, vice-president of the Armagnac & d’Artagnan tourist office opened the opening of the Jean-Jacques Baylac exhibition in the Vic-Fezensac office. With this exhibition, it was his wife, Cathy Baylac, who wanted to pay tribute to him by exhibiting his works, each more beautiful than the last; as well as the love he had for Spain and the Gers through his paintings.

Barbara Neto, mayor, the departmental councilors, Emeline Lafon and Benoit Desenlis were naturally present. It was recalled that Jean-Jacques Baylac had been president of the Vicois bullfighting club, but was also an artist. The tourist office welcomed around sixty people, all present in support of Cathy Baylac and for the league against cancer.

During their visit, the public was able to discover the talent of Jean-Jacques Baylac, who took them on his walks in the campo, where the bulls are free, or in front of the Gers landscapes that he loved so much. These works demonstrate his great sensitivity.

Donations to the League Against Cancer

Visitors who wished could make a donation. The sums collected will be entirely donated to the League Against Cancer, in tribute to the artist. This popular president of the Vicois Bullfighting Club, who died in 2010, left the memory of a man of passion. The vice-president highlighted these delicious and nostalgic moments in front of these works which spoke to them.

Christian Seguin, journalist and great bullfighting specialist, wrote: “Jean-Jacques has been painting since childhood, and we only know the meager part of a work hidden from view. This exhibition reveals another side of Jean-Jacques, his secret garden, his talent as a watercolorist where the ‘toro’ always appears. Like the matador searching for the ‘sitio’, the painter always occupies the right place facing the bull that haunts him. It was in this cradle of horns that Jean-Jacques Baylac was born. And this is where he comes back with his eyes closed. Only the watercolorist has the power to elevate his dreams.”

Thanks to Cathy, his wife, the public was able to discover the other side of his work and will be able to appreciate the poetry and delicacy of the line.
