A new student residence was inaugurated this Wednesday, October 9 in Villeneuve d’Ascq. New thing: the singer Hervé Vilard was present for the inauguration. This is explained by the name given to the residence: that of the French resistance fighter Daniel Cordier. He was the legal guardian of Hervé Vilard.

Hervé Vilard had a complicated childhood. Orphaned by a Corsican father whom he never knew, he was taken away from his mother at the age of 6 after a neighbor reported her as an alcoholic. He therefore spent his childhood in an orphanage or in a foster family. It was while running away at the age of 16 that he met Daniel Cordier in Paris. He then runs an art gallery and takes a liking to the young boy. He will subsequently become her legal guardian.
The singer says of Daniel Cordier that he was “his master, his educator and his liberator”. It was also for him that he wrote the song Capri is finished. “I wanted to prove to him that I could sing” he declared a few years ago. It was therefore with emotion that he inaugurated the student residence in his name yesterday. Hervé Vilard paid tribute to the former resistance fighter, close to Jean Moulin, who was a real father figure for him.“The son that I have become has the deep conviction that you will be able to prove yourself worthy of this name affixed to the pediment of your residence”he declared in his speech.
