“It impacted who I am”: Paul Mirabel opens up about the important role of his autistic brother in his career

Paul Mirabel returns with “For love”his second show which is already sold out until 2026! The comedian looked back on his career with our colleagues at Match in their edition of October 3, 2024. The young man born in in 1995, usually rather discreet, established himself with his first show full of self-deprecation. He showed, as our colleagues point out, that there is no “no need to make tonseven less to speak loudly to be heard”. Regarding the rapid arrival of his new show, Paul Mirabel explained: “I finished Zebramy previous show, on a Saturday evening at the Grand Rex, and on Monday I returned to the Comedy Club to prepare for the next one. The difference between a first and a second single on stage is that the first one took me twenty years to write. The second, I feel that the public understands it differently, I am clearly more expected. But I am as little aware of these things as possibleotherwise it would be sclerosing”.

Success was achieved for his first vintage since, as he confided, he did not “never played in front of a room where there were still seats for sale”. Proud of the way his humor is received, Paul Mirabel doesn’t get too upset about it. “Your sketch ‘I was racketed’ has been viewed more than 28 million times on YouTube”our colleagues reminded him. The comedian, who partly owes his success to social networks, nuances: “If we look the number of views is immense. But it’s the people who have taken hold of it. If the sketch had not been successful, it would never have been shared. Sofiane, the rapper, sings ‘It’s been noon, what are you talking about luck?’. I quite agree with him… It dates from 2020, if I had only been a buzz, everything would have stopped for me a while ago”. But then how can we keep our feet on the ground? Paul Mirabel can thank his mother but not only that! “When you have an autistic little brother, it anchors you quite a bit in reality anyway”, he admitted. And to say more about their relationship: “We’re very close, we get along really well. And for me, that’s real life. The rest is a nice little cruise”.

Paul Mirabel lucid about the world of humor

“His autism has obviously impacted who I am. Growing up with someone different allowed me to have a different perspective on the world.”, said Paul Mirabel. The latter then analyzed the current humor environment and his findings are not glorious. “Stand-up has almost become a fashion. And I observe that a lot of people are just looking to have a lot of subscribers without worrying about being funny on stage. So it creates a little buzz, but after that? Me, like my friend Jeremy Ferrari, we think far away. We want to still be here in twenty, thirty or forty years!”he analyzed. And to admit: “Sometimes I say to myself, ‘I’ll do three shows and then I’ll call it quits.’ But to be honest right now, I’m not saying that to myself at all.”.
