Around thirty people gathered at the Sainte-Luce media library to discover “Fanm doubout oliwon lakarayib ek lanmerik”. A participatively staged show combining quizzes, singing, reading and theater. An educational and creative way to discover or rediscover 11 female figures from the Caribbean and the Americas.

An immersive show

Singing, percussion and committed performers brought this show to life to the rhythm of the stories of women who have shaped our history. This show, written by Georges Arnault and Huguette Bellemare, is a vibrant tribute, but also a reminder of the importance of storytelling in society. Huguette Emmanuel Bellemare, co-founder of Culture Equality.

We believe that a lot of gender-based violence comes from the fact that women are devalued. We think that they are only good at cooking or seducing men and that they have never done anything, that they have no value in themselves. So, we think that revaluing heritage means that society has a much greater chance of moving towards a bright future.

Under the artistic direction of Sarah Corinne Emmanuel, the Lawon chant troupe invites the public to participate in discussions on a totally immersive journey.

We decided to break the fourth wall because it is important that from time to time, that we speak in complete confidence, that we speak together, that we manage to concern the people who are in front of us and that this communication is open and not sclerotic.

Restoring visibility to women

In the audience, women and men of all generations, curious to discover the show, but also touched by the initiative.

There is a lot of work to be done. Not just women’s circles to put us women forward, because it’s always the men who are there. I’m not denigrating men, but we need to be there, to be present, to see what we can do, succeed in life. This is why we came to support this group. Several of us came, as they say, there is strength in numbers.

Conference, dramatized market, commemoration with this immersive show, Culture Equality closes the 2024 edition of Matrimoine month.
