New twist around the series Monsters. After Ryan Murphy, actor Cooper Koch, who plays Erik Menendez in the second season of the hit Netflix program, reacted to criticism of the real Erik, accusing the series of painting a “dishonest portrait” of his family.
“Erik’s reaction really touched me and made me feel things,” Cooper Koch told American media Variety. “I have empathy for him. I understand how difficult it is to see the worst part of your life broadcast on television in front of millions of people.”
“For this role, I really wanted to do as much research as possible and dive deep within myself to portray Erik with integrity and be as authentic as possible to support him and his family and everyone who is by his side “, continues the actor.
“Bad intentions”
After a first part on Jeffrey Dahmerthis second season of Monsters focuses on the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez, two brothers convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents. The duo confessed to the facts and justified their actions by revealing that they had been victims of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of their father.
Since the series aired, the real Erik Menendez has denounced the “inaccurate” and “imprecise” account that the series provides of their story.
“I thought we had moved past the lies and ruinous portrayals, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible, blatant lies spread throughout the show,” he said on his brother Lyle’s Facebook account.
“I can only believe they did it on purpose. You can’t be so inaccurate and imprecise about our history without having bad intentions,” he continued.
And Erik Menendez concludes: “It’s sad to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime has taken several steps back from the painful truths.”
