Fans of Reunion Island singer Maya Kamaty were eagerly awaiting to see her back on the Mauritian stage. She was indeed one of the headliners of the 7th edition of the One Live Muzik Festival scheduled to take place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September at the Café du Vieux Conseil in Port-Louis. However, on a Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon, the singer informed her fans that she would not be at the festival this weekend.
“I was looking forward to joining you for the One Live Muzik Festival, but today life brings me back to my family and I prefer to be with them in a difficult time.”
Jimmy Veerapin of Culture Events & Production and founder of this festival, explains. “Maya Kamaty’s maternal grandfather is very ill. She was on her way to the airport when she heard the news.”
Everything was ready to welcome the singer as it should be. She was to be the first to perform on Saturday evening in a solo repertoire.
The organizer, however, has planned another artist to replace Maya Kamaty. “Groups from the AyoZaad collective will be on stage,” explains Jimmy Veerapin. The public will thus be invited to see on stage the Australian DJ/Producer Ribongia, Jason Heerah, Ophélie Sauteur and Manu Desroches. This collective has just participated in the Sakifo festival in Reunion Island last June. This will be an opportunity for those who do not yet know them to discover their Music which fuses the musical traditions of the islands, Africa, India and Europe.
As a reminder, on Friday the public will be treated to the performance of Meddy Gerville from Reunion Island, Manu Desroches, Sayaa and Moya. The evening will end with a DJ Set by Andrea. On Saturday, AyoZaad will be followed by the performance of Zulu, Mannyok, Aleksand Saya from Reunion Island and Born to be Music. The evening will end with the DJ set by Avneesh. Note that both evenings will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are on sale at Rs 800 per day at the Café du Vieux Conseil. A package at Rs 1500 for both days is available on the Party App application only.
