Jégou and Auradou case, “there are no injuries, there are marks…”: their lawyer’s defense point by point

For the past ten days, the case surrounding Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou has taken a turn that could well prove decisive. The two rugby players were officially able to return to and leave Argentina and the city of Mendoza, where they had been since last July. Charged with aggravated rape, the two 21-year-old athletes, who had left with Fabien Galthié’s French XV for a summer tour of South America, were able to return home. Since then, while the complainant has broken her silence on camera, convinced and persuaded by her story, it would seem that the Argentine justice system has some doubts about the veracity of her statements.

This Sunday, September 15, the lawyer of Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou agreed to return to the case in an interview given to Parisian. Known for having been Eric Dupond-Moretti’s collaborator for several years, Antoine Vey does not seem to have any doubts about the outcome of the trial. When our colleagues ask him when the courts will rule on his request for dismissal, his response is unequivocal: It is hoped that the dismissal will be rendered before the end of the month.. I can’t say whether it will be in fifteen or twenty days.”he says, before giving his opinion on the likelihood of a trial taking place: “0%? I am sure that the case will be dismissed.”

Antoine Vey does not plan to counter-attack if the case is dismissed

Visibly very confident, Hugo Auradou’s lawyer, whose father spoke for the first time and expressed his deep conviction, reacted in particular to the fact that 15 injuries were revealed on the complainant when she filed a complaint. “There are no injuries, there are marks”Antoine Vey specifies from the outset, before continuing: “They were shown to an expert, who could have said that these marks were the result of violence. But she says that there is no no mark clear enough to deduce that it comes from a violent gesture and intentional such as punching, slapping, strangling or hair pulling. The victim therefore described facts that did not occur.”

Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou are now awaiting the decision of the Argentinian courts and if ever a dismissal of the case were to be pronounced, the players do not seem to intend to file a complaint for defamation against the plaintiff. It’s not the priority. In the end, what would be the point since justice will not establish innocence by saying that she lied?”asks the lawyer.

Oscar Jégou and Hugo Auradou remain presumed innocent of the facts with which they are charged until the case is closed.
