Cross-border workers: Studying in Luxembourg with a scholarship, a puzzle deciphered

“What steps should I take to receive help when going to study in Luxembourg?” This is one of the questions frequently asked at the Maison du Luxembourg of the Eurométropole of , which has reserved its Thursday afternoon for the theme “/Luxembourg Border Student Scholarships”. “We organize this type of event to be able to explain all the procedures to them and then guide them,” explains Monique Fey, reception agent at Clous, a local entity of the Regional Center for University and School Works (Crous).

The public service of the Maison du Luxembourg also sees many young people interested in studying in the Grand Duchy. “I don’t know exactly their area of ​​expertise, but they are turning to Luxembourg for a course in English and with the ambition of finding work there more easily,” assures one of its employees, who notices a “ strategy for the future” among young people. “When I ask them if they plan to pursue a career there, they all answer in the affirmative.”

One of the most important steps to mention is that the first application must be made to Crous Lorraine between March and May. “The scholarship depends above all on the country of residence”, information repeated several times during the interview, because it is “little known”.

The student’s file is then analyzed and if their scholarship is accepted, they will be able to benefit from an envelope of between 100 and 700 euros per month depending on their situation. Once the response from France has been obtained, a second request can be made on the Luxembourg side, for financial assistance from the State, AideFi via MyGuichet.lu, if at least one of the parents works in Luxembourg. Depending on the establishment, the region can also help the student.

The Maison du Luxembourg Messina very often offers themes for cross-border workers, from taxation to pensions and mobility. “With the new France-Luxembourg tax convention which will come into effect this year, supporting cross-border workers on this subject will be in high demand.”
