An American couple almost died in their bed because of a piece of ice that broke off a JetBlue airline plane. On January 1, 2024, in California (United States), he allegedly perforated the ceiling of the lovers' bedroom while they were sleeping. According to the complaint, which CBS News was able to view, it was “the size of a watermelon.”
Anxiety and depression
The victims reportedly “narrowly escaped devastating physical injury.” This episode would have traumatized them and caused insomnia, even preventing the man from working.
Both now describe themselves as “anxious and depressed” especially since their house is under an air corridor. According to them, planes pass over their home every five minutes. The couple plans to move and are demanding one million dollars from the airline, or around 960,000 euros.
JetBlue named as culprit
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane had been experiencing problems with its drinking water system since July 2023. It had already lost a piece of ice on a house in Massachusetts in August 2023. The plaintiffs believe that JetBlue did not not “investigated and corrected the problems” since that summer.
-Furthermore, the company waited ten days after the recent incident in California to act. The device was removed from service only in February 2024 for repair.
