He was also awarded silver in 1982 at the European Athletics Championship in Athens and in 1986 at the European Championship in Stuttgart. However, Jürgen Hingesen fulfilled his greatest wish as an athlete when he qualified for the Olympic Games.

The native of Duisburg achieved the qualification for the Olympic Games three times. In 1984 Jürgen Hingsen won the silver medal in Los Angeles – as several times earlier in other competitions. In the 1980s, Hingesen was one of the most successful and talented athletes in the world. But he could never outdo his greatest competitor Daley Thompson. The Briton achieved a better placement every time in the direct duel.

Jürgen Hingsen’s end of career: great disappointment

As early as 1983, Jürgen Hingsen was happy to receive an honor for all his athletic achievements. He received the silver laurel leaf – the highest sporting award in the Federal Republic of Germany. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul it wanted to know again and he started again as a athlete. For him, participation should be the culmination of his sporting career. But his previously successful career took a disappointing end.

Jürgen Hingsen was disqualified for the 100-meter run after he had done three false starts. In 1989 he officially ended his career as a professional athlete. Most fans of Hingsen know him as a successful athlete, but in 1984 the Olympic Tar also practiced as an actor. Olympic star Jürgen Hingsen: He does that today

In 1990 Jürgen Hingsen had a supporting role in the RTL series “A Castle on Lake Wörthersee”. He was also seen as a sports presenter in the ZDF television garden. In April 2006 there was a candidate at “Let’s Dance” and finished fifth with his dance partner Uta Albanese. Today the former professional athlete is committed to the ambassador for children’s and youth projects. He also gives lectures on the topics of motivation, passion, fairness and sustainability.
