The Tihange 1 reactor shut down due to an anomaly: what consequences?

One of the reactors at the Tihange power plant was shut down this Monday morning.

The Tihange 1 nuclear reactor automatically shut down Monday morning around 9:30 a.m. due to “of an anomaly”confirmed Olivier Desclée, spokesperson for Engie, the operator of the nuclear power plant located in the province of Liège.

The anomaly in question is currently being investigated, it is specified.

The plant is therefore shut down and “there is no risk for the environment or people”. Security of supply is ensured thanks to other production units, such as gas power plants, and the balance is guaranteed thanks to good availability on the market, particularly in France, assures Engie.
