Melania Trump launches her own cryptocurrency, Trump's token collapses

Donald Trump's cryptocurrency lost 45% a few minutes after the launch of his wife, Melania Trump's cryptocurrency.

Has the cryptocurrency war started in the Trump family? A day after the launch of Donald Trump's own cryptocurrency ($Trump), Melania Trump launched her own token, called $Melania, currently available on the Solana blockchain.

Following the launch of this token on Sunday January 19, the value of Donald Trump's cryptocurrency fell by 45%, going from its highest point at $75 to $45 in a few minutes, according to CoinMarketCap.

Record capitalizations

During the night from Friday to Saturday, Donald Trump put 200 million tokens (units) of his own cryptocurrency on the market, panicking investors. At 10:15 a.m. this Monday, January 20, Donald Trump's cryptocurrency rose again, trading at $57. In just two days of existence, it has already reached a capitalization of 11.5 billion dollars. The Republican elected official's token remains more popular with investors than Melania Trump's cryptocurrency, which only weighs $1.6 billion at the time of writing these lines.

Both Donald Trump and Melania Trump launched eponymous “meme coins”, a few hours before Donald Trump's inauguration (see our article on Donald Trump's flagship crypto projects). As a reminder, meme coins are cryptocurrencies originating mainly from popular memes on the internet. Some of these tokens have managed to gain popularity, like dogecoin, the favorite cryptocurrency of Twitter boss Elon Musk.
