This is a story that could have ended in a much more dramatic way. A Hungarian, surprised by the departure of the train he had taken, clung to the cables for part of the journey.
A man traveling on a high-speed train in Germany clung to cables outside the train for almost 30 kilometers on Thursday and survived this particular journey despite traveling at speeds of more than 280 km/h. The information was revealed on Friday by German police.
The traveler, a 40-year-old Hungarian, boarded the train in Munich on Thursday heading to Lübeck, in northern Germany. However, he was not a ticket holder. But according to the police, this is not what caused his dangerous behavior.
While the train was stopped at Ingolstadt station, about seventy kilometers north of Munich, the passenger went down to the platform to smoke a cigarette. When he realized the doors had closed behind him and the train was starting to move, the man jumped into the gap between two carriages and held on to cables.
-The train continued on its way, with a top speed of 282 km/h, police said.
The driver finally stopped the TGV in Kinding, 30 kilometers north of Ingolstadt, where the freeloader was arrested.
When questioned by police, the passenger said he was hanging on to the outside of the train because his luggage was still inside. However, he did not suffer any injuries despite this perilous journey. The man, without a ticket, risks being prosecuted for non-payment as well as for “disturbing public order”.
