Which Renault 5 to buy to get the fastest possible charging?

While waiting for the entry-level Five version, the R5 range at Renault is now well launched. But what should you choose to have the highest charging speed, which is essential for an electric vehicle with a “small” battery?

The Renault 5 got its career off to a good start, moving straight into the Top 10 for electric sales. At least for . A market which should remain major for the 100% electric Renault 5 e-Tech whose qualities made it win the election for car of the year. On paper, however, the Renault 5 does not stand out for particularly daring technical choices, with a battery, charging power and autonomy that are average for what can be found today. And choosing the right version is all the more important as Renault, unlike Peugeot for example, offers different levels of charging power depending on the engine and battery chosen.

Comfortable or urban autonomy?

While waiting to find the Five variant which will soon arrive in the catalog, you will have to opt for comfort autonomy with the 150 hp engine to be entitled to 100 kW of direct current charging (from €33,490). Urban autonomy, with the 40 kWh battery and the 120 hp motor, caps at 80 kW. And in both cases, alternating current charging (at home or at a slow terminal) will be 11 kW. 22 kW charging does not exist since the on-board charger does not allow it.

And for those who would like to wait for the Renault 5 for less than €25,000, the “Five” variant will completely do without direct current charging! It will therefore be 11 kW, and no more. A strange choice in 2025 even though a less expensive Citroën e-C3 benefits from 100 kW charging as standard.
