Sixty journalists from twenty-three European countries gathered at the Motor Show, which is being held until January 19 in Brussels, have therefore decided. For Renault, it's a winning double since the manufacturer sees not only its electric R5 crowned, but also the sporty Alpine A290. It's even a new success for the diamond brand since last year, at the Geneva auto show, it was the electric Scenic which was crowned.

This victory for the electric R5 is also that of the production teams based in Hauts-de-. Precisely in , in the department, and where we consider this as a collective victory. All the more important as Renault is banking on this model to replace the Zoe, the group's electric pioneer. The title of Car of the Year is one thing, but the price of the car remains the determining factor in its success with the public. The first version costs 33,500 euros (compared to nearly 35,000 for the traditional Zoé, excluding government bonus). Another electric R5 model should soon follow at a price of 25,000 euros, but with a range limited to 300 km compared to more than 400 km for the ''premium'' R5.

The marketing and advertising departments will take advantage of this title of car of the year awarded in Brussels. All of Renault's sales forces will mobilize to extol the merits of this electric version of the iconic model from the 1970s and 80s. A model on which Renault is counting heavily to recover its sales and whose manufacturing has been closely monitored by the director general of Renault, Luca de Meo, launcher of the project upon his arrival at the head of the group in the summer of 2020. Put on sale in the fall, this R5 has already sold ten thousand copies between November and December last, in a difficult context for the electric car market.
