On the occasion of its 10th anniversary in 2022, Free committed not to increase the prices of its two emblematic mobile plans (€2 plan and Free plan at €19.99/month) until 2027. last year, in the midst of an inflationary context, Free reiterated its commitment not to increase the prices of its flagship mobile plans. The operator returns to the charge at the start of 2025 to reaffirm its commitment, reminding in passing that it has so far kept its promise.
Free Mobile freezes prices for 5 years
This good news for customers and also an easy communication operation for the operator. However, Free Mobile does indeed keep its promise. Only certain options and other packages have seen their prices increase in recent years, or decrease for the Free Family plan.
At the start of 2022, Xavier Niel made his mark by appearing in a presidential speech. The founder of Free, accompanied by the motto “freedom, equality, unchanged prices”, promised not to touch the prices of the packages at 19.99 euros per month and 2 euros per month for the next five years (i.e. the duration of ‘a presidential mandate).
Despite galloping inflation, Free has stayed the course and is pleased to be “the only operator to have made such a commitment”. In reality, Free Mobile has done better since the two main mobile plans have been at the same price since 2012. The operator had then just arrived on the market promising to kick in the anthills of French operators.
Prices have not changed… since the debut of Free in 2012
If the prices have not changed for thirteen years now, the Free packages have regularly evolved. In 2024, the Free 5G package saw its Internet envelope increased twice, from 250 to 300 GB usable in 5G/4G (in mainland France) in May, then to 350 GB in October. The operator has also added 13 new roaming destinations (5G or 4G depending on the destination) to bring the total number of destinations included in the Internet envelope abroad (35 GB/month) of the Package to more than 110. Free 5G.
-Finally, the Free 5G package also saw the arrival of the TV applications OQEE by Free in January 2024 and Free FOOT to follow Ligue 1. For the record, the 2012 version of the package at 19.90 euros was already intended to be “unlimited” with calls (in France to 40 destinations), unlimited SMS and MMS… as well as 3 GB of 3G Internet.
And after 2027?
Free likes to remind every year that it keeps its commitment, but the operator does not say more about after 2027. The operator still has time to refine its formulas and we do not yet know if the prices will remain stable . For now, Free prefers to mention the progress of its 5G/4G network.
