May 20, 2024: Microsoft holds its Surface Event, and expectations are high. That's when Microsoft decided to treat the world with a little surprise and pulled out of its hat… Recall, an AI-powered feature with which the company hopes to create a buzz. And that's exactly what happened. But not quite in the way Redmond envisioned.
In fact, Recall excites as much as it worries. Quickly, we wonder about the security and confidentiality guarantees which Microsoft has obviously forgotten to look into. Storing extremely sensitive data, unencrypted database, default activation, hard integration into the system, Redmond takes a beating and ends up postponing its deployment to an indefinite date. For a few weeks, we no longer hear from Recall.
At the start of the school year, the company sets the table again and confirms that it has corrected the major problems reported so far. Manual activation, encryption in the TPM, filters – half functional – intended to prevent the capture of confidential elements, uninstallation possible – but not for everyone – Recall is trying to redeem itself, but Internet users still don't want it not. No problem, Microsoft is going there anyway, and starts the testing phase at the end of November.
