The Competition Bureau will take legal action against communications company Rogers over allegedly misleading statements in advertisements for wireless phone plans with unlimited data offers.
“The Bureau asserts that Rogers' advertisements give the false or misleading impression that the plans offer consumers unlimited data, allowing them to use as much data as they wish,” the organization said in a press release. Monday. In reality, plans come with data caps and, once reached, data speeds are reduced, or limited, by more than 99%.”
Through this lawsuit, the independent entity is asking Rogers to put an end to this advertising campaign which could mislead consumers, in addition to demanding a sanction and compensation from customers of Infini wireless telephone plans.
“Canadians need accurate and truthful information when purchasing goods and services, especially essential services such as wireless data plans. This case shows that the Bureau remains committed to ensuring that Canadian consumers are not misled, and that we are taking all necessary measures to combat false or misleading commercial representations in the marketplace,” said the Commissioner of competition from Canada, Matthew Boswell, via press release.
