Unemployment in : the Channel remains spared

The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) unveils the unemployment figures of this 3e quarter in . Yes, yes unemployment rate increases in the regionhe remains below the national unemployment rate in the Channelwhere only the Granville territory saw a slight increase.

7.2% of Normandy workers are unemployed

Au 3e quarter 2024, and over one quarter, the unemployment rate increases by 0.2 points in Normandy. 7.2% of Normandy workers were unemployed during this period.

This rate reaches the national level for the first time since 2020, indicates INSEE. Over one year, Normandy is experiencing the largest increase in the unemployment rate in mainland while the national rate is stable.

Compared to 3e quarter of 2023, in the former Lower Normandy region, the unemployment rate increases by 0.2 points in Manche and and by 0.4 points in Orne.

5.4% unemployment rate in the Channel

“With a rate of 5.4%, the Channel is still the territory of Normandy most spared from unemployment,” underlines INSEE in its report. And the break is clear: to the west, the department of Manche, where unemployment, with the exception of the Granville territory, oscillates between 4.9 in the Saint-Lois country and the Carentan area, 5 in the Avranchin, 5.4 in -Cotentin, 5.5 in Coutançais and 6.4 around Vire. On the other hand, it is 6.7 in the Granville basin, where it increases by 0.4 points. La Manche remains, on the scale of Normandy, the best performer in terms of jobs. Calvados and Orne are in an intermediate situation while in the former Haute-Normandie region, the unemployment rate rises to 9.2% in the basin (i.e. the highest rate of Normandy) or 8.2% around .

La Manche ranks 4th among the least affected departments in mainland France in the 3rd quarter.

With an unemployment rate of 6.7%, Calvados ranks 35th, Orne ranks 49th with 7% and Eure ranks 54th with 7.1%. “Seine-Maritime still has the highest unemployment rate, 80th nationally with 8.2%, continues INSEE. This department remains the main contributor to the increase in regional unemployment. »
