The Czech manufacturer, now integrated into the German group Volkswagen AGcontinues its offensive on the electrified cars. After the launches of the Enyaq, Škoda is mobilized on that of the Elroq, a compact electric crossover which should arrive in 2025. And with a first price set at €33,300, Škoda should hit hard!
A new design for Škoda
Especially since the Elroq has all the advantages to attract a very large audience. By its dimensions, worthy ofa real SUV with its 4.49 m long and 1.65 m high. But also visually: the latest from Škoda inaugurates the new design of the brand, called “Modern Solid”. The result is striking: the crossover turns out to be very well drawnpresenting a fluid and resolutely modern line, giving it an impression of both robustness and dynamism.
A lot of work on the drawing
At the front, under the sculpted hood which descends in a point towards the central part and the logo, Škoda introduces a new “look” composed of a very pretty double-decker light signature integrated into a double-decker grille as well. A previously unpublished architecture using LED technology. The indicators are made up of two very thin strips placed high on the wings, and are cut into four small rectangular projectors. Placed below, the high beam blocks are underlined with a fine “claw” which accentuates the sharp look of the crossover.
“The Elroq is made to seduce, and we feel that the model has benefited from rigorous work on its layout and the quality of life on board”
The upper part of the grille is plain, cast in a elegant lacquered black headband which encompasses the four rectangular headlights, while the lower part of the grille inherits a honeycomb grille. The manufacturer also worked on the sides of the Elroq, hollowed out and stylized like the hood, which highlight the large 19 inch wheels.
A resolutely sporty character
At the rear, the roof ends with a spoiler in a high position which extends the tailgate. This element dominates a cleverly angled rear window to better assimilate the vertical part equipped with triangular lights. Well designed, they encroach on the wings for a very elegant, even sporty effect: an impression reinforced by the choice vertical air scoops placed on the sides. Finally, the Elroq is also equipped from a broadcaster which further reinforces the solid side of this small compact SUV.
The little extra : a novelty for the Modern Solid line with the disappearance of the traditional Škoda logo with the Indian headdress replaced by the name of the brand
A high quality layout
Inside, what does this crossover offer? One observation: the interior of the Elroq is particularly well thought out, taking inspiration from the universe already very noticed of his brother, the Enyaq. We appreciate the large dashboardrectilinear and very refined, which advances very intelligently above the central tunnel. This small island supports a beautiful 13 inch touch screen dedicated to controlling the multimedia system, and also accommodates the ventilation/air conditioning with a very aesthetic row of horizontal controls who marries the soft and moving lines of the board.
Sports steering wheel, two-tone materials
Behind the sport style steering wheel stamped with the word Škoda, the driver benefits from complete and very readable digital instrumentation. On the central tunnel, the manufacturer has opted for the interesting choice of leaving a few buttons for some physical controls, including the choice of driving modes. The whole thing is well designed, elegant, and the two-tone recycled materials (facing the central tunnel, the doors and the board) are of good quality.
“The crossover is suitable both for family use, due to its driving comfort and its habitability, but it is also capable of marking its territory on the asphalt”
The Elroq is made to seduce, and we feel that the model has benefited from rigorous work on its layout and the quality of life on board with real seats in the front and back… The crucial question remains: are the crossover's engine and therefore its performance at the same level? The answer is positive. The small SUV offers three efficient engines: Elroq 50, Elroq 60 and Elroq 85. The first delivers 170 hp and its 55 kWh battery allows a range of more than 370 km. The second displays 204 hp, and its more powerful battery (63 kWh) allows it to reach more than 400 km. Finally, the most powerful peaks at 285 hp and its 82 kWh battery promises more than 560 km of autonomy.
High-performance mechanics
As an example, theElroq 85 is able to achieve the 180 km/h and he just needs 6.6 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. Performances which resolutely confirm the character sporty of this crossover suitable both for family use, due to its driving comfort and habitability, but also capable of marking its territory on the asphalt. Modernized design, solid performance, quality of finish, on-board technologies… The newcomer from the Czech manufacturer has all the assets to be a big success.
