The heritage building housing Chocolats Favoris in Lévis could be demolished

The heritage building which housed Chocolats Favoris on avenue Bégin in Old Lévis may be demolished.

The Demolition Committee of the city of Lévis approved its demolition Monday evening, confirms Alex Bernier, press secretary for the president of the committee, Serge Bonin.

Only one condition was imposed by the committee, namely that the replacement project be more inspired by “the architectural style of the original building, while retaining as many of the heritage characteristics that make it an original building.”

Last year, the directors of the Chocolats Favoris company told the Journal wanting to rebuild a new business in the same location, while respecting its character “as faithfully as possible”.

They claimed to be forced to demolish the building housing the very first branch of the banner in Old Lévis, due to numerous problems with water infiltration and deterioration of the masonry, among other things.

Faced with the instability of the building, Chocolats Favoris had to move its operations to the Miscéo district in September 2022.

Opposition

Opponents of this decision now have thirty days to file a request for review of the decision.

If necessary, the city council will then have to decide on the question, specifies Mr. Bernier.

More details to come…
