No one is safe from downsizing in the world of electric vehicles. Not even China, where competition between the different EV players is raging. As a result, the Hangzhou Ji Yue Automobile Technology joint venture, otherwise known as Ji Yue, owned by the giants Geely (65%) and Baidu (35%)would be in great difficulty in a Chinese market which would have more than 120 different brands operating in the electrical sector.
Other brands threatened in 2025?
For any response regarding the difficulties encountered by the Ji Yue brand based in Shanghai, the two manufacturers issued a joint press release: “Due to the enormous changes in the competitive landscape of the industry, the business plan could not be executed and operations faced challenges.” Contacted by AFP, independent analyst Lei Xing said: “That this is happening at Geely and Baidu, leading players in their fields, is a form of surprise (…) It shows how difficult it is to compete in the current environment (…) I think that other brands could be in difficulty in 2025.”
