Defrauded of thousands of dollars while trying to buy hockey cards

Two Saskatchewan hockey card fans lost more than $5,000 each after trying to do business with a Quebec seller.

Jordie Gagnon and Rocky D’urso pre-ordered coveted 2023-2024 cards from the brand Upper Deck Hobbybut claim to have never received their package.

The two hockey card collectors subsequently requested a refund, which they never received.

The owner of the Brown’S sports card store, located in Longueuil, Quebec, Maxime Brown, announced earlier this year that he had a few copies of these popular cards.

Jordie Gagnon, however, claims that nearly 70 people who were part of a group of online collectors went to the police because they had not received the cards ordered from Maxime Brown.

The owner of the store confirmed to -/CBC that his customers had not received the cards. He said he was going to pay them back, but his bank had frozen his bank account.

The merchant promised to grant an interview to CBC/-, but he did not show up for the virtual interview.

By email, Maxime Brown claimed that he was not a scammer and that rumors that he had used the money to buy luxury vehicles or to go to the Bahamas were false.

Maxime Brown added that 12 people had already been reimbursed and that 12 other people had been partially reimbursed. He did not give a date for the reimbursement of his other customers.

Jordie Gagnon transferred $5,659 to Maxime Brown, and $6,200 to Rocky D’urso.

The two collectors affirm that they had confidence in Maxime Brown and that they had already done business with him in the past.

I’m not usually like that, I don’t give money so easilydit Rocky D’urso. My birthday was in November. So it was a birthday present for me, so when I found out about the situation, I didn’t feel very good.

In an email, card company Upper Deck claims that Maxime Brown is not an authorized seller of its products.

Our certification programs exist for this reason, to protect consumers and help them feel safe when shoppingwe read in an email.

Upper Deck’s director of marketing, Paul Nguyen, says the company cannot compensate individuals who purchased their products from someone who is not certified.

Maxime Brown, for his part, claimed that he had not purchased the cards directly from the company, but through a private seller who decided to withdraw from the transaction.

I never intended to defraud anyone and I still haven’t done it todayhe said. I lost control.
