Whether to counter soaring prices or get through a complicated financial period, Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will offer benefits and credits to a large number of single people in Quebec in 2025. Indeed, certain aid are specially designed for these people with or without children, and adapted to their personal situation.
Contrary to what one might believe, it is not only families or couples who can benefit from financial support from governments. Single people also have access to large sums of money, often paid directly into their bank account, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Moreover, even if you are in a relationship, you can be considered single in the eyes of the law if you do not share the same roof as your partner. This status also includes divorced, separated or widowed people.
So, don’t miss out on these opportunities and take a few minutes to check your eligibility via My file for citizens from Revenu Québec and My file for individuals from the CRA. This help could ease your budget well beyond the holidays and give you a boost for the year to come!

Family allowance
As soon as a child is born in your household, your registration for the Family Allowance is carried out automatically when you declare it to the Director of Civil Status. However, a request must be made if you adopt a child, as well as if you immigrated or obtained your citizenship in Quebec.
All families with dependent children under the age of 18 who live with them are eligible for this assistance.

Note that the minimum amount per child has also been increased, from $1,163 this year to $1,196 in 2025, or $33 more. The calculation of this assistance is based on the family income declared to the government, and the amount that will be allocated to you is tax-free.
Payment dates in 2025: The first of each month. Note that people registered for quarterly payments, however, receive their allowance four times a year, i.e. in January, April, July and October.

Canada Child Benefit
This federal program is intended to provide assistance to all families, including single-parent families, to support the education and development of young people. Eligible parents are those who have provided proof of birth and who have primary responsibility for the care and education of a child under 18 years of age.
Amount: This annual allowance can exceed $7,000 depending on the age of the children and the income of the parents or primary guardians. Since July 2024, the CRA adjusts the amount of payments based on income declared the previous year.
For example, if your family income is less than $36,502 per year, it is possible to receive the following maximum amount:
- For a child under 6 years old: $7,787 per year (or $648.91 per month);
- For a child aged 6 to 17: $6,570 per year (or $547.50 per month).
When annual income exceeds $36,502, the amount of payments is gradually reduced.
In the case of shared custody, each parent receives 50% of the amount they would receive if they had full custody of the child, this amount being based on each person’s adjusted net family income. The CRA considers that you are in a shared custody situation if:
- The child divides his time between you and another parent in a relatively balanced manner (between 40% and 60%);
- The child resides mainly with you;
- The child lives with you temporarily, for example during the summer holidays.
