Is it fair to talk about deindustrialization in 2024 in France? According to the Trendeo firm, France will close more factories than it leaves ground over the last twelve months (-15) for the first time in eight years. If its counting methodology is based on official announcements, the editorial staff of La Tribune relied on the same method to produce its own map dedicated to the destruction of industrial jobs in the country, since January 1, 2024.
France in the process of deindustrialization
Based on our editorial staff in all regions, the inventory shows some 13,000 industrial jobs destroyed in France since the start of the year. Furthermore, the editorial staff notes that around 5,000 jobs in the industry are threatened in the short term, although this figure changes daily. This count is therefore not exhaustive.
“Industrial bleeding”, the seed of possible anger in medium-sized cities
It still allows us to see that a third of the jobs destroyed in France over the last twelve months concern the automobile industry. The agri-food industry and consumer goods account for 25% of these industrial jobs wiped off the map. The chemistry and pharmaceutical industry alliance completes the podium with 12% of the jobs recorded.
