Charlevoix train: “we have to tell ourselves the real facts,” says Michel Couturier

The mayor of La Malbaie is not throwing in the towel for the Charlevoix Train.

Michel Couturier is of the opinion “that we are at a crossroads”. According to him, “we need to reestablish the perception we have of each other,” he says, referring to regional promoters and stakeholders.

He suggests that a meeting bringing together Réseau Charlevoix, the leaders of Groupe le Massif and the region’s elected officials be held to explain the issues on both sides.

The mayor of La Malbaie also mentions that “the amount of assistance requested ($350,000) may be high. Expectations are a little high. A good meeting to talk the real deal would be a good thing. There, we are in a zone of distrust and we do not understand each other,” he continues.

The mayor of La Malbaie, like other elected officials, does not want the Charlevoix Train to disappear. “It’s worth making an effort together. The Secrétariat à la Capitale-Nationale supports. You don’t have to shy away. When people talk to each other with good will, solutions are found,” he adds.

La Malbaie has injected $210,000 into the Charlevoix Train over the last 7 years. “We have proven that we care. The train is a great signature for the region,” he also said.
