The Rimouski municipal council announced its intention, Monday evening, to adopt a by-law to prohibit drive-thru services in the city center.
More specifically, if the by-law is adopted at a future public meeting, drive-thru services would be prohibited in the commercial zones of the city center located north of rue de l’Évêché, between rue Belzile and rue Lavoie.
The by-law aims, among other things, to combat the increase in traffic congestion in the city center and to improve pedestrian safety on Saint-Germain Street.

Businesses that already have a drive-thru service will be able to keep it. Only new drive-thru services would be affected by the regulation.

The general director of the Rimouski-Neigette Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jean-Nicolas Marchand, appeared at the microphone Monday evening to question the council about this draft regulation.
He notably asked elected officials if there was a link between this draft regulation and the business which must occupy the building where the restaurant was previously located. PFK.

asked Jean-Nicolas Marchand of the mayor.
The latter replied that to his knowledge, such a project has not yet been submitted to the City.
Guy Caron explained that businesses that already have a drive-thru service in the targeted sector benefit from a grandfather clause
(an acquired rights clause) and will be able to keep it.
