Swisscom has won a contract with the medicines control authority Swissmedic. From 2025, the blue giant will be responsible in particular for the infrastructure of specialized applications and the operation of the federal authority’s hardware and software.
Swissmedic, the federal authority for the authorization and monitoring of therapeutic products, announces that it has chosen Swisscom following a public call for tenders for its IT service needs. From 2025, the blue giant will replace Swissmedic’s current service provider, the Federal Office of Informatics and Telecommunications (FOIT).
Swisscom will be responsible for managing the infrastructure of specialized applications, managing hardware and software, providing information security services as well as managing the necessary telecommunications services.
By turning to Swisscom, Swissmedic wants to prepare for future challenges in international collaboration with the main regulatory authorities for therapeutic products and with industry. The outsourcing of IT services has been planned for the next 15 years, for a total amount of 185 million francs. The contract includes other options, expected growth due to advances in digitalization as well as expected price increases.
