A large-scale theft. The health data of more than 750,000 patients from an Ile-de-France health establishment was stolen and put on sale this Tuesday, cybersecurity expert Damien Bancal told AFP, information confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
On a website, a hacker offered for sale a file containing the personal data of 758,912 people, although the reliability of this figure is uncertain.
The hacker revealed part of the stolen information. According to him, these are personal elements, such as the names, first names, email addresses, postal addresses, dates of birth and medical information of the victims.
Targeted phishing to worry about?
The sales proposal includes the name of Mediboard, a medical software deployed in many health establishments, as well as the name of several private hospitals.
The leak concerns one of them, from the Aléo group, which uses the software, said the company which publishes it. “The establishment's health data is not hosted at Softway Medical,” explained Déborah Draï, the company's communications manager.
Aléo Santé brings together 14 clinics or health centers and three retirement homes in Paris and the south of the Paris region, according to its website.
These data thefts raise fears of very targeted phishing of which patients could be victims. Since the start of the week, several companies have suffered data leaks.
