It’s not for nothing that we know the expression so well: metro, work, sleep. Work plays a large part in everyday life. So why not do it in a company that is among the best in the country? The list of Canada’s 100 best employers in 2025 was unveiled on November 15, 2024. It’s a good time to take a look since several of these firms are recruiting in Quebec and there are hundreds of positions offered there.

For 25 years now, this ranking, published by Mediacorp Canada, in collaboration with the Globe and Mailhighlights companies that are innovating to adapt to changes in Canada and the expectations of their staff. Moreover, workplace practices have evolved considerably over the years. Here are some examples of progress observed in 2025:
- Paid leave: Today, 31 employers offer at least four weeks of paid leave upon hiring, compared to only eight during the first edition.
- Maternity leave: Nearly 75% of employers on the list now offer additional pay during maternity leave, an increase of 40% in 15 years.
- Hybrid working: As a result of the pandemic, remote and hybrid working policies continue to be refined, meeting the needs of staff members.
- Community initiatives: More and more employers are making it easier for their employees to volunteer with local organizations.
To establish the top 100, Mediacorp has based itself on eight key criteria since the creation of the competition, namely the workplace, the working atmosphere and social life, health, financial and family benefits, vacations and leave, employee communication, performance management, training and skills development and community participation.
Which companies are in the top 100 best employers in Canada?
Among the list, we find in particular the Bank of Canada, the engineering firm Hatch, La Brasserie Labatt ltée, Sobeys inc. and the Government of Yukon. Several of the top 100 employers also have their head offices in Montreal, including L’Oréal Canada, Bell Canada, Cascades Canada ULC, Danone Canada, the University of Montreal, Keurig Dr Pepper Canada and others.
Among Quebec companies, some have stood out for their social benefits, such as ABB Canada, which introduced a teleworking policy allowing employees to work from outside the country for a specific period.
Others have also carved out a niche for themselves through their parental leave policies. This is the case, for example, of Danone Canada which offers a supplement to future parents to reach 100% of their salary for 26 weeks. L’Oréal Canada provides this supplement for 18 weeks to new mothers.
ChezSaputo, the Montreal dairy processor, staff are entitled to a day of paid leave to volunteer.
