The manufacturer Hyundai announced a cessation of sales for IONIQ 5. According to information gathered by the RPM team, a software problem is preventing Hyundai from delivering the vehicles to its customers. This judgment will take effect on November 20, 2024.
A nebulous problem
After checking with several car dealerships, the RPM team confirms that a sales cessation will soon be issued by Hyundai Canada. It’s still unclear which models will be directly affected, but we can confirm that the IONIQ 5 is on the list.
The manufacturer does not yet have all the answers to our questions, but the dealers contacted confirmed that reprogramming is necessary for the IONIQ 5. The problem would be linked to the ICCU module which has already failed in the past. There are reports that the Hyundai IONIQ 6 could also be affected, but at the moment only the IONIQ 5 models are confirmed.
Speaking of models, Hyundai Canada suggests that vehicles produced on the E-GMP platform could also be affected. We could therefore add the Genesis GV60, the Kia EV6 and EV9 to the list. However, nothing has yet been validated.
What to do if you are waiting for a copy?
This situation will delay the delivery of several vehicles. It will not be possible to take possession of a vehicle affected by the cessation of sales, and future owners will therefore have to be patient and wait for this restriction to be lifted.
This situation is reminiscent of the cessation of sales of the Volkswagen ID.4, caused by problems with its door handles. Automotive manufacturers are increasingly faced with this type of difficulty, due to the increasing complexity of on-board electronic systems.
After stopping sales of the Volkswagen ID.4, the German manufacturer also halted production of the vehicle to resolve this problem. We will have to monitor the situation closely to see if Hyundai will consider such a scenario. We will keep you informed of developments on this matter.
