a new levy planned soon, who is affected?

Monday, November 25, one of the last deductions for the 2024 tax year will be made. But this only concerns a certain portion of taxpayers. Explanations.

We'll have to be ready. At the end of the year, spending for the end-of-year celebrations flirts with deductions from the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP). Taxpayers owed a catch-up income tax will pay a third levy on Monday, November 25.

This levy only concerns a certain part of the population. More particularly, people whose total withholding taxes (known as PAS) for the year 2023 is lower than their tax. The latter therefore owe money to the administration.

The penultimate sample

Taxpayers owing an amount less than or equal to 300 euros have, in theory, already paid. And this since September 26. But for those whose amount due is greater than 300 euros, the sum has been divided into four monthly payments, the dates of which are distributed as follows: September 26, October 25, November 25 and December 27.

“This balance will be automatically deducted from the bank account communicated to the tax administration,” specifies the tax authorities.

Note that this year, taxpayers who sent their tax notice in October will also have to check out on November 25 and December 27, we can read on the impots.gouv.fr website.

Once aware of the next two deduction dates, taxpayers can have details of the remaining amount to pay by going to their particular area: in “Documents”, you must look for the words “amount remaining to pay ” in the 2024 tax notice.

According to our colleagues at Capital, the total amount of the catch-up appears on average at 2,127 euros for 9.8 million households. “The average levy made by the tax authorities on November 25 will be 532 euros,” they predict.

Beware of the increase

Regardless of the amount you owe to the tax authorities, it is necessary that the amount be available in the bank account known to the administration in due time. If a direct debit is rejected, your bank may charge you fees. But that's not all. If a direct debit at maturity has been rejected by your bank, the administration will not resubmit this direct debit.

“You will not be able to pay the tax concerned by electronic payment following this rejection,” informs the administration.

You will then receive a letter informing you of the rejection and inviting you to regularize your situation directly with your Public Finance center by another means of payment: check, transfer or payment by credit card at the counter. An unpaid due date will be increased by 10% for late payment.
