The west coast of Canada is about to receive the jolts of a weather bomb whose power could be quite rare.
By Tuesday evening, the cyclone will rapidly intensify over the Pacific Ocean, which will then afflict the province of British Columbia with strong winds and large amounts of snow. This system can be described as a weather bomb, a powerful storm.
What is a weather bomb?
In meteorology, a system that intensifies very quickly in terms of pressure drop is identified as a weather bomb. To qualify as a weather bomb, this pressure drop must be at least 24 hectopascals within 24 hours.
The forecast says the expected weather bomb pressure drop in the coming days will be a little more than double the required minimum. By Tuesday evening, a drastic fall of more than 50 hPa (hectopascals) in less than 24 hours is expected: a considerable number.
Result of this weather bomb: strong gusts (among others). These could reach 110 km/h in San Josef Bay, on the west coast of the country. The wind could also blow up to 100 km/h in the Tofino region.
In addition to these strong winds, the west of the country will also receive heavy snowfall. In mountainous terrain, the flake harvest could reach more than 100 cm; a quantity which is added to the snow already received last week.
Power outages are also possible due to gusts mixed with heavy precipitation.
