A 35-year-old New York passenger burned by a hot drink on board an EgyptAir plane is seeking US$5 million in damages from the airline.
Esraa Hezain, who took the flight from New York to Cairo, said she suffered burns caused by a “boiling” hot drink contained in an uncovered tea cup.
Indeed, the tea cup flew off the “defective” seat table, according to court documents from the Brooklyn federal court consulted by the “AeroTime”.
It was at this precise moment that the flight experienced significant turbulence, while the crew on board did not see fit to suspend beverage service, according to the complaint.
According to the plaintiff from Manhattan, several seat tables were “degraded,” while hers “did not stay flat when unfolded.”
Seriously injured, Ms. Hezain suffered second-degree burns to her lower abdomen, abdomen, thighs and buttocks, said her lawyer Abram Bohrer, according to “AeroTime”.
“For the price of a cover, this should not have happened,” he lamented, according to the specialized magazine which specifies that the Egyptian airline did not respond to his requests.
