North of Mans (), the surroundings of the station d’essence of the commercial areas of Auchan, in the commune of La Chapelle-Saint-Aubinhave been blocked since the beginning of this morning Tuesday November 12, 2024.

A truck loses corrosive product

Shortly before 9 a.m., a truck carrying Hazardous Material hit a wall. A corrosive product was spilled onto the roadway.

THE firefighters intervened for a “chemical leak on public roads”.

The police quickly set up a security perimeter to prevent access. Around twenty soldiers are mobilized.

34 firefighters including those of the chemical cell are on the scene. The intervention was still in progress in the afternoon.

Difficult traffic in the commercial area

From the morning, the access to this part of the commercial area were blocked by law enforcement. There circulation is therefore always difficilethis Tuesday, near the Auchan hypermarket.

The product in question has been identified

Around 4 p.m., the Departmental fire and rescue service de la Sarthe (Sdis 72), provided more details on the incident.

He confirms the loss of a load “estimated at 1000 litres of sodium hydroxide”, otherwise called “lying soda”, specifies the Sdis. “This product is used in the industrial environment, particularly for cleaning, disinfection or acidity control.”

What risk for the population?

“Protective measures” have been implemented: they “make it possible to ensure that the absence of risk for the people.”

At the time of sending the press release, the impacts on the wildlife and the flora were “being determined”, including those on the nearby river (the Sarthe).

The firefighters askavoid the area to facilitate emergency response.

As for the driver of the truck, he was “quickly taken care of” and transported to the Le Mans hospital center.

Avenue du Mans closed

Sdis also indicates that avenue du Mans stay closed to traffic to the east of the ZAC between the gas station roundabout and the “employee” parking roundabout.

Access to Auchan remains possible via the north car park and the covered car park. “The commercial activity of the Aushopping center is therefore not impacted. »

Traffic should be restored during the afternoon.
