Two intriguing photos recently caused a stir in Quebec sub-Reddits, sparking much speculation among Internet users.
What is this? Where does it come from? Quebecers did not hesitate to share their wildest theories on the subject, on the r/montreal discussion thread (where the images first appeared), but also on r/Quebec (where the original publication was recovery).

Let’s first look at the famous images posted online by user u/Substantial_Radio_16 early Thursday evening.
“I saw this on the way home, it was in the sky while passing the airport,” wrote the Internet user to accompany his two images where we see a trail of orange smoke under a flying object which we cannot identify.
The trace in the sky is similar to that left by rockets or space shuttles when they leave Earth, Substantial_Radio_16 wondered if it was “some kind of takeoff”.
In the two Reddit discussion threads where the images appeared, Internet users had fun putting forward the most outlandish hypotheses to explain the phenomenon.
However, the answer was quickly found: it was simply an Airbus A340 flying between Detroit and Frankfurt.

As user u/onetwothreefoe explained, since the plane flew over Montreal as the sun was setting, the water vapor condensation trail it left behind reflected the light a bit like a cloud would.
So those who thought it was a bird or Superman, you were spot on: it was a plane.
