this new tax soon to be demanded from tenants from 2025 will be expensive

There will be something new in terms of taxation in 2025. With a state budget focused on reducing the budget deficit, the government has prepared some new things for the French. But this new tax which is already applied to habitants of certain municipalities depends on communities and is actually intended to be fairer.

It is an understatement to say that taxes of all kinds are numerous in , to the great dismay of taxpayers who often complain about paying too many taxes. However, it also happens that some of them are removed in an attempt to simplify things and make taxation more equitable. This is the case of the housing tax which has disappeared for many since it only applies to second homes.

Owners and tenants are affected by this tax

Coming soon, it's the household waste collection tax (TEOM) which will disappear from January 1, 2026 in the municipalities of Fayence, Callian, Mons, Tourrettes, Tanneron, Montauroux, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, Seillans and Bagnols en bois. Finally, it will in fact be replaced by the household waste collection tax incentive
(TEOMi). And if the difference is not obvious, there will be a change in the
trash cans of certain French people from January 2025.

Indeed, “the incentive fee is deployed in
Pays de Fayencein the , from 2025 which will be a test year.”
as explained on the France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur website. Already implemented in several regions, it actually involves charging owners and tenants depending on the quantity of waste collected.

This new tax is intended to be fairer

The tax calculation is intended to be fairer

It aims to be fairer than the current system which
“rests only on the surface of the dwelling.” In fact, the TEOM does not take into account “the size of the household or the actual occupation of the accommodation over the year or not”. With the
incentive feeit's quite the opposite. It is in fact the home which will decide “the bin capacity garbage bin (80L, 120L or 240L), but also
number of lifts per year.”

Depending on these elements, the part
variable
to pay. To this will be added a
part fixe Who “corresponds to different services: the sorting collection of packaging, paper, glass and cardboard, access to the recycling center and waste treatment, the collection of bulky items and illegal dumping, administrative management, but also the installation of composters.”as our colleagues explain.

The tax will be implemented gradually in these municipalities

The aim is clearly to make households aware of the amount of waste generated and change the
behaviors to reduce them. It must be said that a Frenchman produces every year 582 kilos of waste
according to figures published on the site vie-publique.fr in 2022. And this figure has continued to increase since 2015.

But don't panic for the inhabitants of the municipalities concerned.
“Residents will be able to choose their package from December 2. 2025 will be a year of adaptation and support, with a
blank billing. The TEOM will be definitively abandoned in 2026.”
It's not too late to
change your habitsbecause the incentive fee is being adopted by more and more communities and should soon become widespread in France.
