When luxury car brands decide to go electric, it can produce results that are truly tempting… But at prices that are completely inaccessible to ordinary mortals! The proof, with the new Rolls-Royce vehicle.
Electric cars clearly don’t convince everyonebut it is a fact: we will have to deal with them in the future. Many car manufacturers have therefore decided to get startedincluding some luxury brands. This is particularly the case of Rolls-Roycewhich recently presented its first electric car, named Spectre.
An electric Rolls-Royce that seduces the crowds
With its power of 577 horsepower which makes no noise, its range of 438 kilometers and its very elegant design, the Rolls-Royce Specter seduced the first people who had the opportunity to get behind the wheel. Starting with Tim Stevens, the journalist from The Vergewho does not hesitate to consider that it could be the “best electric vehicle on the planet” at this stage.
The car has two electric motors under its hood, which gives access to 900 Nm of torque and 577 horsepower. Result : despite weighing almost three tonnes, it reaches 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds.
Obviously, Rolls-Royce is also a styleand it is not because the Specter runs on electric power that this point has been put aside. With his 5.5 meters long, the car is imposing on base. It incorporates many codes created by Rolls-Royce since 1904, including the large grille at the front and of course, the small iconic statuette of the brand on the hood.
A luxurious and technologically advanced vehicle
Inside we find a walnut dashboard, lambswool carpets and a set of polished metal controls. And all this is obviously accompanied by a deluge of embedded technologies.
On the program, massaging seats, 16-speaker audio system, touch screen giving access to an advanced infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and CarPlay or even a passenger compartment that can be illuminated using dozens of LEDs.
However, some testers believe thatthe vehicle is missing certain features. Too bad not to support Dolby Atmos with so many integrated speakers, for example. Plus, as Rolls-Royce has been owned by BMW since 2003, one might have expected to see the brand’s hands-free driving aid inside, but that’s not the case.
How much does the Rolls-Royce Specter cost?
As one might easily guess, Rolls-Royce’s first electric car is far from cheap. Acquiring it requires taking out, at least, $420,000 from your pocket! And that’s without counting the numerous options available, including body colors that can add more than $13,000 to the bill. It is “easy” to exceed $500,000 to have the vehicle of your dreams. So we’ll just admire it in photos…
