Colruyt announces the upcoming opening of around a hundred new supermarkets in Belgium

Colruyt plans to open around a hundred urban stores under the Okay City brand by the end of 2032, focusing mainly on the cities of Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent, the company announced on Tuesday.

The first store of this new concept was inaugurated on Tuesday in Berchem (Antwerp), replacing an old Okay Compact. These new stores will better meet the needs of urban customers, according to the brand.

Colruyt plans to open 30 Okay City by 2026, and is aiming for a total of 100 by 2032, the company also indicated, confirming information from RetailDetail. The brand sees growth potential for dozens of additional stores in urban centers over the coming years. “The focus will be on the cities of Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent, but Ostend is also in the crosshairs, as well as Liège, for a second branch,” specifies the supermarket chain.

The latter aims to strengthen the group’s presence in urban areas, where its current market share of 20% remains lower than its national average of 30%. “We want to achieve a market share of at least 30% also in cities,” explains Christophe Dehandschutter, director of Okay.
