From Thursday September 7, the former Minister of the Economy and Finance will be interviewed in the Senate as part of an information mission on the slippage in public finances. Former Prime Ministers Gabriel Attal and Élisabeth Borne will be expected in the following days.
The former Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire and the former Prime Ministers Elisabeth Borne and Gabriel Attal will be heard in the coming days in the Senate as part of an information mission on the slippage of public finances, the upper house announced on Thursday.
Auditions starting Thursday, September 7
From November 7 at 8:00 a.m., the former tenant of Bercy will appear before the Finance Committee of the High Assembly, followed at 3:30 p.m. by the former Minister of Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave. Gabriel Attal will be heard the next day at 9:00 a.m., while Elisabeth Borne will appear on November 15 at 3:00 p.m.
These hearings are being held as part of an information mission by the Senate on the deterioration of public finances since 2023 and its monitoring by the government and the administration. Launched in March 2024, it had already submitted a first report but was reactivated at the start of the school year in the face of new figures for the public deficit, which could exceed 6% of GDP in 2024.
The Senate, whose right and center majority was in opposition until the appointment of Michel Barnier to Matignon, had been very offensive in recent years against Bercy and Bruno Le Maire, regularly accused of ” insincerity” and “opacity” vis-à-vis Parliament. While the text of the 2025 budget aims to reduce the deficit to 5% of GDP next year with 60 billion euros in targeted savings, the National Assembly has also launched a commission of inquiry into the same subject, with expanded prerogatives.
