ECONOMY – If you are the owner or usufructuary of an apartment or house, you only have a few hours left to pay the property tax if you have not already done so. You have until Sunday October 20, 11:59 p.m.

This deadline applies to a majority of households, those who have a local tax amount greater than 300 euros, which must be paid by monthly direct debit or on the due date, or by direct online payment on the impots.gouv website. .fr.

It is also possible to pay via the “Impots.gouv” application, recalls the service-public.fr site, from the tab “Pay my taxes”. Access is by entering the tax number and password, or by flashing the code printed on the tax notice.

If you have activated monthly or due payment, you don’t have to do anything, it’s automatic. This will be carried out from October 25.

The property tax has been available since August 28 on impots.gouv.fr from the private area, in the section « My events / Documents ».

Property tax has jumped in 5 years

Note that taxpayers who did not opt for dematerialization must have received their notice by post between September 23 and October 9.

This week, the property tax observatory, which depends on the National Union of Real Estate Owners (UNPI), indicated in a report that the amounts of property taxes jumped by 20% on average in between 2018 and 2023, and by 32.9% since 2013.

The observatory calculated these figures from government data over the period 2013-2023 and affirms that owners are subject to an average property tax rate of 40.36% in 2023, above 40% for the first times.

If this surge is linked to “the abolition of the housing tax on main residences”which pushed many municipalities to increase property tax levies, and to “the multiplication of additional taxes”it is mainly due to the increase in rental values, which serves as the basis for calculating the property tax.
