The salaries of “around 230,000” civil servants will be very slightly increased on November 1

The objective is to prevent the public officials concerned from being paid below the minimum wage, which will be increased by 2% on November 1st.

Good news for «environ 230.000 agents» public. Their salary will be very slightly increased on November 1 to prevent them from being paid below the minimum wage, the administration told AFP on Friday. During his general policy speech at the beginning of October, Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced a 2% increase in the minimum wage on November 1, which will bring it to 1,801.8 euros gross per month. However, the minimum salary (minimum salary) for civil servants, set at 1801.74 euros, is today 6 euro cents lower than the future amount of the minimum wage.

Since public employees cannot be paid below the minimum wage, the General Directorate of Administration and Civil Service (DGAFP) therefore indicated to the unions on Thursday evening that the minimum salary would be increased by 6 cents on November 1, via a “differential compensation” (bonus) rather than an increase in base salary. This revaluation will concern «environ 230.000 agents»out of the 5.7 million in the civil service, the DGAFP told AFP.

In a press release, the CGT Civil Service described the increase as “derisory” and felt that she could not “be received only as a mark of contempt and provocation by the personnel concerned”. While the unions are demanding in unison a general increase in wages, as the government had agreed to in 2022 (+3.5%) and 2023 (1.5%), the CGT judges that this revaluation of the minimum salary “does not respond in any way to the salary emergency”.
