The dirham appreciated by 0.45% against the dollar and depreciated by 0.45% against the euro between the months of August and September, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM ). Concerning BAM’s foreign currency auction operations, no session has been held since December 2021, specifies the Bank in its recent monthly review of the economic, monetary and financial situation. On the interbank market, the volume of currency exchanges against dirhams stood at 44.3 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) in August 2024, down 29.5% compared to August 2023.
As for bank operations with customers, their volume stood at MAD 34.9 billion during the month of August for spot purchases compared to MAD 31.6 billion a year earlier. For their part, forward purchases amounted to MAD 19.3 billion after MAD 15.9 billion the previous year.
Regarding sales, they involved an amount of 36.1 billion dirhams for spot transactions and 1.7 billion dirhams for forward transactions, after 31.3 billion dirhams and 2.3 billion dirhams respectively.
