Is Free the most expensive operator for entry-level boxes today?

In its new barometer of the cost of internet box prices, Ariase reveals that Free offers the most expensive entry-level fiber subscription in since the end of its promotion on the Freebox Revolution Light.

Ariase, a key player in the comparison of internet and mobile subscription offers, has just published its price index for October 2024. This price monitoring tool, launched in 2020, makes it possible to analyze the evolution of costs for consumers. Despite the arrival of the pivotal autumn sales period, the barometer reveals relative stability in internet box prices.

According to the data collected, the average cost of an entry-level fiber subscription smoothed over 24 months stands at €28.59 per month in October. This figure, calculated for a new customer, shows a slight increase in 1.5% compared to last month. However, over one year, the price is down significantly by 8 %which can be interpreted as a desire by operators to attract new subscribers with competitive offers.

Despite this general trend, not all operators adopt the same strategy. Indeed, if the majority have extended their promotional offers, Free has chosen not to renew its special offer on the Freebox Revolution Light., which returned to a fixed rate of €29.99/month, compared to €24.99/month for 1 year previously. This change would make Free the operator now offering the most expensive fiber subscription on the market in this segment. The operator displays an average price of €32.03 per month over 24 monthsactivation fees included. In comparison, Red by SFR is best positioned on the market and offers an offer at €24.53 per monthcreating a significant price difference of more than €7. It should be noted, however, that the offers are not comparable, the prices of Red by SFR and Sosh do not include TV while Free, for example, offers a triple play offer. The operator also offers the best speeds.
