“We will paralyze the territory”: snail operation of transporters in Alsace on Monday against the heavy goods vehicle tax

They had warned: road hauliers in Alsace do not want the heavy goods vehicle tax imposed by the European Community of Alsace and they were ready to take action. The National Road Transport Federation announced Thursday October 3 a snail operation “large in scale“for this Monday. Traffic will be severely disrupted on the roads from north to south.

Two convoys are planned, from 8:45: one will leave from the Rhenan Ecopark in Reichstett, north of , and another from the Aspach bridge in Burnhaupt, in Haut-Rhin. The point of convergence is the CEA headquarters in , around 10:30 a.m.

The FNTR reiterates that the heavy goods vehicle tax project is a “treason“, “a time bomb that will explode at the heart of our local economy“. On September 11, the ECA presented its impact studywith the aim of fighting against the transit of heavy goods vehicles which clog up the Alsatian motorways: it wanted to apply the tax only on the north-south axis and access to Germany, with a limited price of 15 to 19 cents. Impossible for local carriers who will be “suffocated under the weight of taxes“.

With this tax, the CEA hopes to collect 64 million euros per year, earmarked for the maintenance of the Alsatian road network.
