Michel Barnier specifies which companies will be affected by the tax increases

POLITICS – Guest on the political show The Event on France 2 this Thursday, October 3, Michel Barnier made some announcements on taxes, after those in the morning from Budget Minister Laurent Saint-Martin concerning certain households.

Some “300 companies” will thus be affected by tax increases for a year or two, affirmed the Prime Minister, refuting any « choc fiscal » as some accuse him, including his macronie partners.

“We are going to ask for an effort from the largest companies which make more than 1 billion (in turnover, Editor’s note) and a temporary exceptional effort (…). This represents 300 companies”developed the Prime Minister.

The « temps » of this additional contribution “will be fixed in law”et “it will be a year and maybe two years”he clarified. “But there will be no new taxes on almost all of the 4 million companies”he said.

For these companies, “there will be efforts on the aid they receive for allowances, social charges that we will try to better adjust so that they are more effective, so that they do not constitute traps on low wages, as is the case today”added Michel Barnier.

The Prime Minister also announced that the tax increases which will target the wealthiest people will allow “to recover 2 billion euros”. This concerns, for example, a couple with a tax income of 500,000 euros per year. “but not below”according to him.

“It’s going to be very hard”

“The effort that we are going to ask for is based on a tax system for very high incomes which was put in place by François Fillon and Nicolas Sarkozy a few years ago. We are going to add something to this system for the exceptional and temporary participation of the most fortunate people”added the head of government.

“In the effort we are going to make to reduce the debt, 60 billion (euros), there will be a two-thirds reduction in public spending. And it’s going to be very hard”warned the Prime Minister. “We are going to merge public services. We will probably not replace all civil servants when they are not in direct contact with citizens, all civil servants who retire. »

Michel Barnier also questioned learning where “we happily and positively spend a lot of money”. “We will see if certain learning aids cannot be targeted”he said.

He also mentioned the “billions” spent on medical transport. “Can’t we do better or just as well with a little less money? »he asked himself.
