A new car at a low price? No, it’s not just the Dacia Sandero

Dacia is often cited as the manufacturer still capable of offering inexpensive new vehicles. But he is no longer alone. At Stellantis, you can find a certain Pandina at a knockdown price.

As the thermal Citroën C3 begins to arrive in Europe with its great prices, other mainstream brands had to react. But we weren’t necessarily expecting an internal movement. At a time when the smallest car with a small engine and no options exceeds €20,000, truly inexpensive models are rare. And often, Dacia is cited as an example with its Sandero which, in its “civilian” version excluding Stepway, still serves as a standard for others with its particularly low price. But the Sandero is not alone. If there was still a generous offer under €15,000 before Covid, all these models have disappeared or seen their prices explode under the effect of inflation or the arrival of GSR 2.0. But a small Italian company is putting up resistance with a very attractive offer that runs throughout the month of October.

The Fiat Panda for less than €13,000

(Really) cheap cars are over© Mitsubishi

In basic version with its 70 hp microhybridization engine, the Fiat Panda is sold for €15,900. Far from the €12,240 of the Dacia Sandero. Except that Fiat applies a discount of €2,910 under the condition of taking back a vehicle over 10 years old which is destined for destruction. In short, if you have an old car that no longer has any value lying around somewhere and you are looking for a very practical little city car with plenty of space on board for a very competitive price, maybe it’s time to think about it. However, you will have to place an order before October 31, 2024.. The price of the “Pandina” then increases to €12,990.

Obviously, you will have to make do with a small 70 hp engine but on a city car capable of venturing outside urban areas like the Panda, that remains sufficient. Especially since Italian is light. And it will also be necessary to remain reasonable on expectations in terms of equipment with manual air conditioning, steel rims and few things as standard. But the essential thing is there nonetheless.

Fiat’s offer does not come by chance, as Citroën is launching a C3 for less than €15,000. But it also reminds us that models like the Mitsubishi Space Star were available at very attractive prices for small budgets. Before the post-“2020” years pass by and make the Japanese entry ticket disappear, now perched at €16,900…
