Mercedes is making progress on automated driving

Mercedes’ Level 3 system, Drive Pilot, which allows drivers to delegate control of the vehicle under certain conditions, promises an even smoother driving experience. Mercedes plans to launch this new version in early 2025, once certifications have been obtained.

Drive Pilot: a step forward for automated driving

The Drive Pilot update allows users to safely drive up to 95 km/h, whether in light or heavy traffic. This improvement offers more comfort, in particular by allowing secondary activities such as work or entertainment during journeys. Thanks to this technology, Mercedes-Benz continues to place innovation at the heart of its customer experience while offering a solution to optimize everyday travel.

The brand’s vehicles already equipped will benefit from the update free of charge, whether in the workshop or by OTA (remote). This latest technology is increasingly common on electric vehicles such as the Porsche Taycan. TeslaTeslawith its first generation Model S, was the pioneer in deploying this technology.

Safety and innovations: Mercedes-Benz’s priority

To ensure maximum safety, Drive Pilot is based on a redundant architecture, doubling vital systems such as steering and braking. Of the sensorssensors sophisticated (radars, cameras, LiDARLiDAR) provide real-time perception of the environment. Mercedes-Benz does not intend to stop there: the objective is to reach 130 km/h, already authorized in Germany, by the end of the decade.

At the same time, tests are underway in the United States, in particular with turquoise position lights, to signal the activation of the automated mode. Mercedes may end up ahead of Tesla on autonomous driving.
