The whole of France in yellow, eight departments on orange alert for rain and storms

It’s going to be rainy! – Floods are underway in the Pyrenees, where torrential rain fell during the night

Ardèche and Drôme join the orange club. This Saturday, eight French departments are on orange alert according to Météo-France. While the two south-eastern departments can fear lightning, other territories are on alert. Dordogne, Creuse, Corrèze and Haute-Vienne are on orange alert for rain and flooding. Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are on orange alert for flooding.

It was in this territory that a road literally collapsed during the night from Friday to Saturday, making it impossible to cross into Spain through the Aspe Valley.

For the moment, the rain and storm front is mainly active in the South-West. It will shift towards the east of France in the afternoon, causing heavy rainfall. Significant accumulations have already been recorded with peaks exceeding 100 mm in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. According to Météo-France, 200 mm of water has even been exceeded in Gavarnie, a famous hiking spot. Flooding is underway in several areas. The Gave-de-Pau is in flood, threatening the grotto and the sanctuary of Lourdes.
